PROFILE
Ms Deepa Sharma teaches Environmental Studies
in Mann Public School in Holambi Kalan, Delhi.
She did her schooling from Kendriya Vidyalaya,
Gandhidham, Gujarat. She completed her graduation
in Mathematics (in1999) and BEd (in 2002)
from Gujarat University.
Ms Sharma began her teaching career in Kendriya
Vidyalaya. After having taught there for some
time, she moved to Delhi. In Delhi, she taught
at Mother Divine Public School and Mount Abu
School among others. She joined Mann Public
School in July 2008.
But her experiences, as a student and later
as a teacher at Kendriya Vidyalaya, put her
in good stead for she learnt how to tackle
students who come from varied backgrounds
and who had little or no guidance other than
at school. These experiences helped her hone
her teaching-skills. She believes that the
role of the teacher includes preparing the
students academically, socially, and in co-curricular
activities.
In her present job at Mann Public School,
apart from devising other methodologies, Ms
Sharma routinely prepares activity sheets
based on life skills for shy, reticent students.
“Not all children are confident about
their capabilities. So I have to ensure that
each student is able to participate in class
activities and benefit from the learning process,”
she says.
Despite her science background, Ms Sharma
has fairly arty interests. She is an avid
reader, painter and enjoys dancing. She has
travelled extensively and loves to explore
new places.
