The teacher of the month for November 2002, was unanimously selected by our panel. The winner is Mrs. Bonhishikha Sarkar, Ballygunge Shiksha Sadan, Kolkata.

PROFILE

Bonhishikha Sarkar is a M.A. in English from Jadavpur University. She has also done her B.Ed, both from Jadavpur University. She has been teaching for the past twenty-five years. Her career started with St. Xavier's School, Durgapur in 1977 where she taught English Language and Literature. In 1979 she joined South Point High School in Calcutta and in 1982 joined Ballygunge Shiksha Sadan and has remained there ever since.

The West Bengal Board syllabus offers little scope for innovation as it is heavily grammar oriented. To overcome this drawback, Bonhishikha employs language games and uses allusions to both classical and modern films in the classroom.

She is a dedicated and responsible teacher. Her love and understanding of the subject is easily transferred to her students.
